The Kano Hisbah police has kicked against a move by the Amotekun corps to declare the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris, wanted for his secret wedding to a 16-year-old girl in Kano. YeyeNews.com reporter gathered that the family of the girl reported the matter to Amotekun after the Hisbah and Nigeria police failed to act on an earlier complaint the family filed to them.
“We have a mandate to protect the vulnerable irrespective of where they reside. This God sanctioned mandate must be carried out. We have therefore issued a warrant of arrest against Mr. Ahmed Idris for this act of marrying an underage girl”, the commandant of Amotekun declared in Ibadan.
In a swift response the Hisbah police in Kano has issued a warning to Amotekun to stay away from Ahmed Idris. “Ahmed Idris did nothing wrong under the Sharia legal code which is a superior law to the constitution. Amotekun should withdraw their arrest warrant immediately if not we are going to declare same against Obasanjo who slept with his own son’s wife. We have not forgotten. Amotekun should just mind their business and leave us to practice our culture.”
An uncle to the child-bride had earlier cried out to YeyeNews.com for help in bringing the action of the Accountant General to the public knowledge after several other news outlets refused to publish the story. “They have been suppressing the story at the instance of Mr. Idris. We want YeyeNews.com to help us. We have also reported the matter to Amotekun and they promised to take action.”
When YeyeNews.com reporter reached out to the commander of Amotekun for his reaction to the statement by Hisbah, he simply shrugged and said “we must do what we have to do to save that little girl.”
