The Nigeria Customs Service (NSC) said it has withdrawn its men from manning the 1400km Nigeria – Niger Republic border because the service had realized that only God can effective watch over the border. The Service made this revelation through its spokesperson on the occasion of the launch of the deployment of drone surveillance technology on the Idiriko border crossing.
“We first realized the futility of trying to supervise that vast stretch of border with Niger Republic when Pres. Buhari drew our attention to it that indeed only God can effectively supervise the border. So we have decided to leave the job to God and concentrate our resources here in the Idiroko and Seme borders. These drones that we are launching today will assist our gallant men if the effective policing these borders while believe God will also do a good job in our border with the Republic of Niger”, the custom’s spokesperson told journalists.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian League of Atheists has vowed that its members in the NCS will not go to the Nigeria – Niger Republic border if they are ever deployed there. “Our members will exercise their rights of exemption from that posting for religious reasons. Members of some faith will never be deployed to inspect a container of pigs so why should our members be deployed to work with God. We will never accept that. May God be our witness”, the secretary of the League disclosed to YeyeNews.com.
But in a swift response, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), in a joint press statement condemned the statement of the League of Atheists, calling on government to sack them if they refuse deployment. “They must be children of the devil. How can any sane person refuse to work with God. God is the greatest watchman and without Him all our efforts will be in vain. We commend the NCS for leaving that border to God. From now on no illegal person or item will ever cross through it”, the joint statement reads.
But in separate interviews with YeyeNews.com officials of CAN and JNI could not agree whether the God that will supervise the border is Allah or Yahweh.
