The Resident pastor of Foursquare Bible Church in Abuja has made a statement in a response to remarks made by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina that he stopped attending a church in Abuja because the pastor was criticizing President Buhari. The statement by the resident pastor said that Mr. Adesina’s absence is not being felt by the church because Mr. Adesina does not pay tithes to the church.
It will be recalled that Mr. Adesina made some remarks in an opinion piece he wrote to praise the founder of Deeper Life Bible Church Pastor W.F. Kumuyi for his staunch support for the president. But in a swift response the pastor took to church’s verified Facebook page to make the following comments; “Father Mbaka was once ‘simply different’ too. But we all saw how it ended. The truth must be said and I will continue to say it exactly as it is. Nobody notices your absence. You don’t even pay your tithes”, in obvious reference to Femi Adesina.
Though Femi Adesina did not mention the name of the church he referred to, many believed he was targeting the Foursquare Bible Church branch in Abuja. A source in the church told YeyeNews.com that Mr. Adesina was ordained a pastor of the church in Lagos and he attended the Abuja branch when came to the FCT. “There is no doubt that he was referring to our Abuja church. The question is did our pastor criticize the government falsely? Their failure is clear for all to see. Even Pastor Kumuyi he is praising today criticizes the failures of the government in his private conversations. The day that he will eventually make his critic public he will cease to be the darling of the government and given the Mbaka treatment”, the source said.
A member of the Foursquare church in Abuja accused the presidential spokesman of attempting to arm twist the pastor to be singing praises of the government. “He tried to arm twist us to become government vuvuzelas and be singing only their praises. He said rather than blame President Buhari for the failures of the government we should be telling the congregation that it is the PDP that caused all the economic hardship because they stole all the money. But the pastor insisted on standing by truth. That is why he stopped attending the church. Even as a presidential aide he doesn’t even pay tithes and he doesn’t put more than N200 as offering. Who will miss such a person? Let him go with his lying tongue”, the pastor said.
