There is no love lost between these two governors, former party mates and and national archrivals. Once again Gov. Nyesom Wike and Gov. David Umayi are having Nigerians entertained as they engage in another war of words.
Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi State, after visiting the State House Abuja last week, said that he wished that Nigeria would get another leader like Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari in 2023. His comment caused a ripple and uproar across Nigeria.
Gov Nyesom Wike denounced Umahi and his statement in a Facebook video seen by YeyeNews.com. In the video Wike suggested that Umahi needed a psychiatric check, that Umayi’s problem was sycophancy and that even though Buhari was deaf in one ear and had no feelings in his heart for Nigerians, he (Buhari) knew Umahi was deceiving him when he stood before him, serenading him with songs and praises for accomplishments he (Buhari) knew he did not achieve.
He said Umayi should count himself lucky that Buhari did not have one of those his signature magic toothpicks which he uses to pick his teeth (as seen in a viral picture) to make sure Nigerians know that he doesn’t care.
Afterwards, YeyeNews.com called one of Gov. Wike’s Personal Assistant to know out why Wike said Umahi was lucky that Buhari did not have his toothpick; she said, “Oh, Uncle B shooks people with toothpick when he gets mad. Why do you think Aisha has been in Dubai?”
In his reaction to Gov. Wike, Gov. Umahi, who battled with Wike for the control of PDP, said that Wike was a tough-talking political lightweight with no action. He said he outsmarted Wike, decamped from PDP and joined APC to make sure Ndigbo got their share in the national politics. He said he was Igbo through and through unlike Wike who is ethnic-confused, who said he (Wike) was not Igbo and then reversed himself for political reasons called “2023” and claimed that his mother’s mother and his father’s brother’s mother and sister were Ndigbo.
When the governor saw the confusion in the reporters’ faces, including YeyeNews.com reporter, as he said “mother’s mother and his father’s brother’s mother and sister”, he threw his hands in the air and said, “That’s what I am talking about. This remote governor of a local government in Igboland needs to undergo paternity test to know if his father was from the north or west or mbammili (riverine towns) or Bakana.”
“He is either confused or lying or has selective amnesia. An Igbo knows he is Igbo, Nwa afo is nwa afo and I’m sure he doesn’t know the meaning”, he explained.
In conclusion, he suggested that Wike was jealous that Buhari loves him, that he has accomplished a lot since he joined APC and made in-roads in the north and in the minds of northerners as 2023 approaches. “Wike can’t stand that I’m Buhari’s right-hand man in the South-East and South-South”, he said.
YeyeNews.com contacted Ochiagha Uche Ogumba, the Brigade Commander of Eastern Security Network, to know IPOB’s view on this war of words. He laughed and said, “IPOB has no comment when two efulefu are fighting.” When prodded by YeyeNews.com to know who they could work with, he vehemently said on no ground should they work with any of them and said, “Know this: Umayi is a cancer; we had no problem with Wike until Obigbo.”
“But ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend’ and Wike is the enemy of your enemy, Uncle Buhari”, YeyeNews.com observed.
“On Obigbo we stand’, he said flatly and wished the reporter a good night.
