Senator Babafemi Ojudu last week displayed a cozying up photo with his 21-year-old political mentee on his Facebook page and informed his followers that his mentee wants to “make a career out of politics”.
However, YeyeNews.com reporter was tagged by some social media users many of whom were wondering what kind of mentorship Senator Ojudu intends to give to his protégé. “He wants to teach him how to become a successful lapdog to a political godfather”, one Facebook user posted. Another wrote: “Someone should educate this mentee and tell him to face his education and go get a job upon graduation. Someone should tell this mentee what Ojudu doesn’t know: Politics is not a career but service to the people.”
Surprisingly, an aide to Sunday Igboho, the prominent Yoruba nation agitator, who witnessed the exchanges on Senator Ojudu’s Faceboo page reached out to Yeyenews.com reporter via private message. The aide, who pleaded anonymity, told our reporter that the “senator is training the young boy as part of a team that will specialize in mobilizing thugs to disrupt and rig elections for his party. He called some of our guys to come assist as instructors in his political thuggery training school but we told him Igboho Osa will not like it. We are not in that business anymore”.
When YeyeNews.com reporter contacted another of Igboho’s aide, he confirmed that the Senator actually reached out to them for help but they declined. “As I speak to you now Igboho Osa has already instructed me to go and prevail on that boy’s parents to withdraw their son from Senator Ojudu’s tutelage”, he said. He went on to say Igboho has promised to personally sponsor the boy to Germany to continue his education rather than let him continue in this career path of being trained to recruit thugs.
Another source very close to Ojudu’s master at Bourdillon told Yeyenews.com that the senator wants to retire from his role of mobilizing thugs to fight and disrupt elections, coordinating vote buying and voter intimidation on behalf of his boss. “He wants a more “‘honorable’ role within the family”, the source said. But his boss won’t just let him retire. He has to train his successors and that is exactly what he is doing with those young boys he calls his mentees, another source added.
