Following the disarray that followed the death of their leader Abubakar Shakau, the leadership of the dreaded Boko Haram terrorist group has decided to change their name. The spokesman of the group Kachalla Guma, made the announcement in a video released from the terrorists stronghold in the Sambisa forest.
The spokesman said the group has been considering the change of name since the past two years. “The acute shortage of fighters after the death of our leader made us to urgently reconsider the proposals for a name change. A long deliberation, the Shura council accepted the western sounding name Boko G. Our ideologies still remain the same. However, we believe this new name will make us more appealing to younger Muslims”.
A source that is very familiar with the group’s operations told YeyeNews.com reporter that the new leadership of the group believes that the name Boko Haram conjures up evil memories about them and that a not so dreadful name will be a good thing. “They want to start an aggressive recruitment targeting young funky Muslims and they feel Boko G will be a better brand name. The name is also a tribute to their dead leader, Abubakar Shakau , who liked to play instrumental jazz by Kenny G”.
Though some observers still insist that a the name change is simply a ruse but some top security officials told our reporter that they “remain optimistic that this new name will help to deradicalize the group and eventually integrate them into society as a hippy social movement”.
