A teacher in an elite primary school in Victoria Island Lagos has been sacked for “inappropriate behavior” during a Primary V sex education lesson. The teacher simply referred to as Miss Cindy (not her real name) was fired for stripping in front a roomful of the kids during a sex education class. The girls were reported to have shown different emotions, some horrified, some intrigued and some of them screaming on top of their voices.
“I couldn’t believe it”, the Headmistress of the school said to YeyeNews.com reporter. “This teacher got naked in front of the entire class. I am so angry. This is a scandal”. A school management meeting was immediately called to discuss the controversial pedagogic approach employed by the teacher.
Testimonies at the hastily called meeting confirmed that Miss Cindy actually stripped in front of the wide-eyed kids. “Teacher Cindy was explaining breasts and female reproductive organs to us. When she observed we were finding it difficult to understand, she removed her blouse, brassier and panties”, a source in the meeting quoted a the testimony of a shocked student.
But Miss Cindy has defended her use of unconventional methods. She told YeyeNews.com that “the best way for children to learn about female anatomy is to look at it first. The school should actually appreciate me for my willingness to present my body as a learning aid. Why use PowerPoint or photographs when the children can look directly”.
Opinion of parents of the kids are divided on the issues. While some expressed outrage at the action of the teacher others praised her for her innovation. “This woman showed these little children everything”, an angry parent Garba Salihu told YeyeNews reporter. “She should be fired and sent to jail immediately”. But a mother of one the children commended the teacher saying “I think it is fine. Children are going to see all of it sooner or later. They might as well learn about private parts from a teacher. It is commendable”.
A source in the school revealed that after the shouting and yelling in the meeting, the school management reached a decision to sack the teacher.
