In an online poll conducted recently among supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari, 85 percent has called on him to divorce his wife Aisha, YeyeNews.com has learned. According to these respondents, the president’s wife does not believe in the vision of Buhari government.
In a dramatic turn of events, the supporters have started championing the call through the #DivorceAishaNow currently trending in the Indian microblogging site Koo. The supporters of the government registered in droves on Koo app in the aftermath of the Twitter ban which saw Nigerians resorting to VPN in order to access their Twitter accounts.
YeyeNews.com gathered that the trending hashtag was started by the a Koo user @Abbakatsina who wrote that “Every enemy of Baba’s government must be kicked out and Aisha will lead the way. #DivorceAishaNow”. This has been ‘rekooed’ (retweet in Koo) thirteen thousand times at the time of writing this report. Another user @dankarami wrote “She acts like a member of PDP. Always saying bad about the government. I support that Baba should divorce her”.
A survey form with the question; Should Pres. Buhari divorce Aisha? that was created by @Abbakatsina has attracted over seven thousand respondents as at press time. Exactly 85% of respondents answered ‘Yes’ to the question. “The few voices calling for moderation has been drowned by the mob baying for the woman’s head”, a Buhari supporter from Ibadan told YeyeNews.com. “We have tried to make them understand that they shouldn’t drag the first family into politics but they keep abusing us. Discussions in Koo are just like in an echo chamber. There is no dissenting view and none is even tolerated”.
But the call seems to be gaining momentum beyond the Koo App. A core Buharist in Kano Buba Yakasai revealed to YeyeNews.com that the #DivorceAishaNow has gone beyond Koo and Facebook. “This is now a movement just like #EndSars. We are organizing to stage a peaceful rally in Abuja next week to push our demand. This First Lady has abandoned her obligation to support her husband. She now takes every opportunity to criticize and rubbish his government giving the PDP things to talk about”, Yakasai said.
He went to further state that “We are not just doing this on our own. We have people who support us even in the Villa. Our demand is that Baba should not marry Aisha anymore. After all she has abandoned her duty as a wife to go and live in Dubai. Who knows what she is doing there?”, Yakasai queried.
