A police inspector has arrested a couple Mr & Mrs Chibuike Uzor for not serving him food and drinks when he attended their wedding reception at Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. According to a source who is a relative of the groom, the police inspector said the couples failed to attend to him after inviting him to their wedding.
“He claimed to have traveled to Abakaliki from Owerri on the invitation of the couple. But that the couple did not bother about his wellbeing after he arrived and even during the wedding reception, he was not served any food. He is thus demanding for a refund of all the expenses he incurred attending the wedding. This is preposterous”, the source said.
But one of the guests at the wedding who YeyeNews.com reporter met at the police station said the lack of food and drinks was not peculiar to the inspector. “Obviously, the acute shortage of food and drinks in the wedding reception is a reflection of the economic situation in the country. Many people came hoping to have one meal here but they were disappointed. The little food available could not even cater for half of the guests. This is not targeted at any particular person but it is simply a reflection of the times we are living. Those days where people come to parties and take surplus food home are fast becoming part of our glorious history”.
Nonetheless, the inspector is insisting that the couple refund his expenses. He told YeyeNews.com that he intends to teach them a lesson to only invite the number of guests that they can cater for subsequently. “Imagine I traveled from Owerri to this place, through IPOB and bandits infested territories and highways just to honour the invitation of a supposed friend and get this kind of shabby treatment. Next time they won’t invite people they know that their available resources cannot cater for”, he said.
At the time of filling this report efforts are being made by the couple’s lawyer to settle the dispute amicably in the “interest of both parties”.
