A Pentecostal Pastor in Port Harcourt, Apostle Divine Godsent, has claimed that Jesus is yet to return because people are not giving enough tithes and offerings to the churches. The Apostle accused Christians of not being generous to the church but continue to hope that Jesus will return soon to rapture them. “I honestly think that the reason why Jesus is yet to return and the rapture hasn’t occurred is because people are not giving the way God told them to give. If you understand this, you can speed up the time”.
In a video of the church service seen by YeyeNews.com reporter, Apostle Godsent further said that if members of the congregation called a certain number displayed on the projector screen, “God the Father will direct Jesus to answer the calls and when Jesus answers your call it means all your worries are over. But you must be prepared to give generously to keep the line active. Maintaining an heavenly SIM card is not cheap”.
People have been quick to criticize Apostle Godsent for his remarks. “Can you believe this bullshit? Nigerians must realize that they don’t have to fund the lives these pathetic conmen masquerading as ‘men of God’. Do not listen to their lies. These are the kind of people that Jesus chased away from the temple with horsewhip. Their tongues are filled with cunning and lies”, a social media commentator wrote.
Another user wrote: “How can adults sit down to listen to such children book stories? They are even grinning from ear to ear and clapping excitedly to that crap! I expect people to walk out of the church immediately the pastor insinuated that people could speed up the return of Jesus by donating to the church but it seems many Nigerians are now slaves to religion”.
