A pastor in Bayelsa State has put a ‘For Sale’ sign on his church premises. The signboard reads: “This church is for sale. Serious buyers can contact the pastor”. According to sources the pastor decided to sell the church after unsuccessful attempts to break even. One of sources who is close to the pastor told YeyeNews.com that the young pastor invested all his savings in the church after he lost his job in an oil servicing company during the COVID 19 lockdown.
“He thought he will quickly recoup his initial investment from the tithes and offerings he will receive and thereafter sustain himself with proceeds from the church. But unfortunately, over six months have gone and he hasn’t seen even 5% of his investment. He has lost hope so he decided to sell it off”.
An intended buyer of the property who spoke to YeyeNews reporter confirmed that he actually entered into negotiation with the pastor to buy the church. “I wanted to buy it and convert to a brothel. The location is strategic for building a brothel. But the pastor turned down my offer immediately I told him my plans. So I am now looking at other properties nearby”
When YeyeNews.com reporter spoke with the pastor, he suggested that COVID-19 affected his revenue and confirmed that he won’t sell the property to anyone who will use it to defile the word of God. “Even if I sell this place today, the alter I raised here will still stand. So that is why I can not agree for anyone to build a brothel here. I am not so desperate for money as I still get my sustenance from God. So whenever God sends the right person to me that is when I will sell this property. I plan to invest the money from the sale of the church on local petroleum refining business”, the pastor said.
