The Nigerian Army is furious over a leaked video showing how operatives of Operation Hadin Kai successful invaded Sambisa forest and summarily executed Abubakar Shekau, leader of the dreaded Boko Haram terrorist group, a source in the Defence HQ told YeyeNews.com.
“The footage was given to the president as a souvenir during one of our monthly security briefings. It wasn’t meant for the general public because it was a highly classified operation. How the hell did it get out? Now those boys in Amnesty will now accuse us of extrajudicial killing”, an army colonel who was part of the operation told yeyenews.com.
Recall that Yeyenews.com recently reported that Shekau died during an invasion of his Sambisa forest hideout by ISWAP fighters. But a top security source has revealed to our reporter that the operation was actually carried out by the military. “The military don’t want to be linked with the operation because of the nature. The operation was designed ab initio as a ‘take no prisoner’ operation. You could see how Shekau was riddled with bullets even after he had surrendered. That is not allowed under the Geneva Convention, so the army had to tactically shift the responsibility for the killing to a rival terrorist group”.
“The military and intelligence community are not happy with this leak. Politicians should not use sensitive security information for unnecessary political advantage. This is a national security breach and a dangerous one at that. Preliminary investigation has shown that the leak came from the presidency. They seem to be so desperate to share any good news. But that is not the way to go about it. Now the image of the military as respecters of international law is at stake. We are not happy”, a senior official in the Defense headquarters told YeyeNews.com reporter.
