A Southwest APC youth leader has alleged that the N250,000,000 donation announced by singer Davido for orphanage homes in the country is a ploy by the PDP to influence the 2022 governorship election in Osun and Ekiti States. The youth leader made the accusations on his Facebook page on Tuesday, YeyeNews.com learned.
He wrote: “This donation is all political. Do you know that 40% of the money is to be shared in Osun and 25% in Ekiti State? That is it. The remaining 35% is what will be distributed to the rest of the country! Even the people that Davido selected to be in charge of the disbursement are all known PDP members. It is clear to us that this is meant to influence the governorship elections coming up in Osun and Ekiti States in 2022”.
Recall that YeyeNews.com reported that the Nigerian musician Davido announced a donation of N250,000,000 to all orphanage homes across the country. Well meaning Nigerians have commended the musician for the philanthropic gesture but the APC is not satisfied that the endeavor is about charity. “This is the handiwork of the PDP. We have credible intelligence that Atiku Abubakar led some southwest PDP leaders to meet Davido in Dubai one week before the announcement of the donation. They are already plotting how to rig the Osun and Ekiti elections that are still months ahead. That is their new Dubai strategy. But I can assure you that they will be disappointed”, Muktar Akande, an APC chieftain in Osun told YeyeNews.com reporter.
The PDP has however dismissed the allegations as ludicrous. A member of the party who pleaded anonymity said the “APC should show appreciation to Davido for making effort to ameliorate the suffering that the party has inflicted on Nigerians. Trying to link this noble philanthropic gesture to the elections in Osun and Ekiti that are still over 8 months away is very thoughtless. Besides Davido never restricted the money to people in Osun and Ekiti only, but he in fact said the donation should be distributed to orphanage homes throughout the country”.
