An Islamic Cleric in Zamfara State has claimed that he got a revelation that Liverpool star Mohammed Salah will not score a goal in his next five games for the club as punishment for his viral photo celebrating Christmas with his family. The cleric made the statement while receiving villagers displaced from their homes, by bandits, at a mosque in Gasau.
“I urge you to pray for this country. Pray for Allah to forgive our leaders. All powers are in the hands of Allah. He does what He wants with our lives. We pray He gives those who made you homeless the reward they deserve. Just last night I got a revelation from Allah that our brother in Egypt who shared a photo celebrating Christmas will not celebrate a goal in the next five games he will play. That is the punishment from Allah for disobedience. Who can question Him? We pray that your tormentors receive their punishment as swiftly”, the cleric said to the IDPs.
One of the displayed villagers wondered why the cleric did not receive any revelation about the punishment for the “evil and bloodthirsty” bandits that has made life unbearable for many residents. “What the Egyptian footballer did does not affect our lives in anyway. We don’t care what anyone say Allah will do to him for sharing his pictures. That is not our problem. Our problems are here with us roaming freely. We can’t go to our homes anymore. Yet all the clerics are asking us to pray. Pray for who? Pray for what?”, the villager lamented.
Another IDP told YeyeNews.com that the statement of the cleric is emblematic of the general feeling of many people towards the victims of banditry. “Many people here don’t care about the plight of the rural dwellers who are the major victims of banditry. They give more consideration to trivial matters like which Muslim celebrated Christmas or who participated in a beauty pageant than they do for our situation. This is the level of hypocrisy that exists here. Nobody wants to talk about our problems because ‘our brother’ is in power. So we are suppose to just accept everything as they are until such a time when Allah choose to intervene. Maybe that time will be when a southerner becomes president”.
