A Nigerian man has dragged his parents before a Magistrate court in Makurdi for giving birth to him in Nigeria. In the court documents revealed to YeyeNews.com by a close family member who wanted to remain unanimous, the 35-year-old man (name withheld) said his parents made the wrong decision to give birth to him in Nigeria when they had the means to have done so in any other part of the world.
“At the time I was conceived, this country was already experiencing bad governance and severe economic misfortune. I learned that was the era of ‘Andrew Checking Out’ and Nigerians were emigrating en-masse as a result of deteriorating economic fortune. So I am perplexed that my parents decided to relocate from United Kingdom to this hell hole of a country at that same time to conceive and give birth to me.”
“Today I am 35 years old and I still live with my parents in their cramped two bedroom apartment. I completely blame them for my present predicament. I pray your lordship to give an order for my parents to sell off the plots of land in my father’s name at Wuse in Abuja and hand over the money to me as compensation for the deprivation they deliberately subjected me to by their immoral decision to give birth to me here”, the court papers read.
A family source told YeyeNews.com reporter that the man has been having a running battle with his parents for a long time. “To be fair to him, he has always been a hardworking young man but Nigeria keeps happening to him. I have tried to intervene numerous times by trying to convince the dad to sell two plots from the seven plots he has in the highbrow Wuse area and give his son the money to settle himself but he has blatantly refused, insisting that he will only consider that if the son will enter an undertaking that he will not travel abroad with the money. But the young man is not going to hand over his passport to his father as required in the undertaking. So I think frustration has finally driven the boy to take this unprecedented step”, the source said.
Though efforts to speak with the man’s father was unsuccessful but his mother revealed to YeyeNews.com that she has been praying for her son to succeed despite the difficult economic situation. “My son deserve a good life. It is a frustrating experience to still be living with ones parents at his age. I regret giving birth to him in this country. I wouldn’t have listened to my husband then. Now see where our patriotism has brought us but unfortunately my husband has not learned anything”, she said
