Femi Adesina, spokesperson to President Muhammadu Buhari, in an interview with Channels TV monitored by YeyeNews.com on the night of Monday September 20, 2021, threw two presenters off their chairs into a bout of uncontrolled laughter when he said in a rather convincing manner that the President is on a mission to teach world leaders how to overcome economic recession during a pandemic.
For more than five minutes the two presenters interviewing him rolled on the floor, holding their bellies as they tried but failed to control the laughter tumbling inside their bellies at the shocking comment of the spokesperson.
Femi Adesina however held a rather perplexed look as he watched the presenters, wondering what part of his comment they found so hilarious. “I don’t understand why you find my comment funny,” he said to the presenters when they were back on their chairs and drying their eyes. “One major problem we have as Nigerians is that we always paint our country in a bad light,” he continued, “unlike other countries attending the meeting, Nigeria is the only country to recover from the pandemic-induced recession. Since the recession, we have recorded a GDP growth of 5.01. President Buhari would however be doing the world a huge favor by revealing how he managed to achieve such a remarkable feat.
President Buhari left Abuja on Sunday for New York to participate in the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly which opened on September 14. This year’s theme is “Building Resilience Through Hope ― To Recover From COVID-19, Rebuild Sustainably, Respond to Needs of the Planet, Respect the Rights of People and Revitalize the United Nations.”
In his closing remarks, Femi Adesina further added that “President Buhari would not only teach them how to cope with the pandemic, he would also speak on security, the girl child, SDGs and other important issues.” The screen however went blank at his words, and inside sources reveal that the problem had come from the cameraman who had burst out laughing at the closing comment of the spokesperson.
Channels TV has however apologized for the unprofessional manner in which its staff had acted, and said the culprits would be disciplined accordingly.
