The Minister of Information and Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed has boasted to journalists in his office that Jack Dorsey had to resign from Twitter because Nigeria will not reinstate the microblogging site’s operation in the country if he remains the CEO, sources present at the minister’s office told YeyeNews.com.
One of the journalists at the briefing told YeyeNews.com that the minister was all boisterous while regaling the journalists on how the government insisted that Jack Dorsey must stepdown as CEO before any consideration can be given to the possibility of Twitter resuming operations in the country. “The minister said that President Buhari clearly spelt out Nigeria’s conditions to the board of directors of Twitter. He said Twitter were initially hesitant but after realizing the massive loss of revenue to the company and the fear of totally losing the Nigerian market to Koo, they made the right decision to force Jack Dorsey out. But Lai Mohammed insisted that this gesture only constitute a show of good faith on twitter’s part and does not guarantee reinstatement of their operations”.
A presidency source further confirmed that Alhaji Lai Mohammed has briefed the president on the development. “The president is very pleased when the minister told him that Jack was sacked as the CEO of Twitter. The president said it is a lesson for anyone that tries to overthrow his government. He commended the minister for speaking to ‘those EndSARS boys’ in the language they understand and for also extending the courtesy of the language lesson to Jack Dorsey. The president is obviously satisfied with the outcome”, the source narrated.
But Nigerian youths have called out the minister on social media describing his claim has ‘mkpuru mmiri‘ induced. “Anyone who is claiming Jack Dorsey’s resignation as the CEO of Twitter has anything to do with the Nigerian government must be under the influence of mkpuru mmiri. This governnent’s penchant to celebrate phantom achievements clearly shows the administration are high on some cheap drugs'”, a Twitter user asserted.
