The Special Adviser to President Buhari on Media and Publicity Mr Femi Adesina has defeated the Minister of Information and Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed by a landslide in a recent online poll for the “Idiot of the Year Award 2021″. The award which was organized by Nigerians on Twitter saw over forty thousand votes cast with Femi Adesina clinching the coveted trophy at the expense of Lai Mohammed with 87% of the votes. “This is by all indications a landslide victory for Femi Adesina. We Nigerians on Twitter send him our love and congratulations”, a twitter user wrote.
One of the organizers of the poll told YeyeNews.com that they decided to institute the award to recognize the effort of government appointees and their supporters to outdo one another in making outrageous and idiotic claims to justify the failure of the government in delivering on basic promises.
“When we instituted this award, we received 11 nominations from Nigerians. After three rounds of voting Femi Adesina and Lai Mohammed emerged as the finalists. In the final votes Mr. Adesina won overwhelmingly to become the first ever recipient of the prestigious Idiot of the Year Award. To honour him for this achievement a digital plaque of the Award with his name boldly embossed on it will be the display picture of every Nigerian on Twitter in the 48 hours. We congratulate the winner and encourage others to work hard to win the next edition”, the organizer said.
Efforts by YeyeNews.com reporter to speak with Femi Adesina were not successful as at press time. But a source in the presidency told YeyeNews reporter that the Minister of Information and Culture believes the election was rigged in favour of Femi Adesina. “I didn’t take the poll seriously because we have banned Twitter in Nigeria. But some people, because of desperation to win an award, surreptitiously influenced the exercise. There is no way I could have lost, not with that kind of margin. Nigerians know me”, the source quoted Lai Mohammed.
