The government of President Muhammadu Buhari has set up a committee to assess how Nigerians will react to the president’s exit from office after his term expires in 2023. The committee which is headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) is expected to submit its report on or before the December 31, 2021.
A source at the presidency told YeyeNews.com that President Buhari has become so obsessed about his rating amongst Nigerians to the extent that he is mortally afraid that his departure will be celebrated by Nigerians. “The president was jolted by the outcry against his government especially by the recent #Northisbleeding protest. His aides keep assuring him that he still enjoys great popularity. But those assurances strangely does not convince the president. He is afraid he might end up as one of the worst presidents this country has ever produced. So he has set up a committee of eminent Nigerians to assess how Nigerians feel about his government and how they would react when he leaves office in May 2023”.
An aide of the SSG who pleaded anonymity revealed that the committee’s preliminary findings show that Nigerians are eagerly waiting for May 29, 2023 that President Buhari will leave office. “The committee has so far discovered that majority of Nigerians are already disillusioned with this government. Their psychological response is to count the days to his exit from office. Many said they will celebrate that day with the last kobo they have. The truth is that Nigerians now consider this government as a plague. It has been a damning finding. But I don’t think the SSG will want to present the exact findings to the president. They will most likely lie to him in the final report”.
Also, many Nigerians who spoke to YeyeNews.com reporter on the matter expressed disappointment at the performance of President Buhari. “Personally, I will celebrate the end of his tenure. He has been a disaster so far. I wonder how a man could put so much effort to becoming the president of a country and end up with such shambolic performance”, a public affairs analyst told YeyeNews.com.
