There is confusion in the first family of Kano State as the son of the governor insist on becoming a commander of the Hisbah police as against the preference of his father for him to work in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) or Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The governor’s son, Muhammad Abdullahi Ganduje, recently graduated from the prestigious Regents University, London with a BA (Hons) in Global Management (Enterprise & Innovation). Before jetting out to London on Tuesday for the graduation ceremony, our source said Gov. Ganduje had already secured juicy posts for Muhammad at the CBN and NNPC. YeyeNews.com correspondent learned that the arrangement was for Muhammad to choose and resume in either the CBN or NNPC immediately on his return to Nigeria.
The first family was however met with utter shock as Muhammad rejected the offer and instead opted to become a Hisbah police commander. Muhammad said he had watched with dismay as the concept of Hisbah was been selectively enforced by the current commanders of the corps. He vowed to evenly enforce the “acceptance of what is right and forbidden what is wrong on all Muslims” irrespective of political, social or religious status of anyone.
The source also told yeyeNews.com that the young Ganduje was particularly irked by what he described as “the obscene display“ that characterized the recent marriage celebrations of Yusuf Buhari and Zahra in the ancient city and vowed to bring them before the Hisbah court system once he assumed his position as the Hisbah commander so they could account for their offense.
The source intimated YeyeNews.com that attempt by the governor and the first lady to talk Muhammad out of the idea only succeeded in fueling his religious indignation. He became very agitated and began reciting a particular passage from the Quran after which he looked straight into his father’s eyes and muttered as if in a trance: “You will account for those dollars. EFCC cannot make you, but my Hisbah shall make you – insha Allah”.
The source told our corresponding that everyone was confused about the actions of Muhammad. The boy seems to have been taken over by a force beyond their reckoning.
Furthermore, there is a strong suspicion in the family that Muhammad had a hand in the leaking of the “Gandollar” video in 2018, the source disclosed. In fact he could have recorded the whole thing, the source posited. When asked about the basis for such suspicion, the source said Muhammad had always preached the need for accountability in the first families dealings.
“He was known for his uprightness and had always advised his father against shady deals, threatening to expose him “to the world if he doesn’t desist” the source told YeyeNews.com correspondent.
Recall that a video was published in 2018 that showed Ganduje collecting wads of crispy US dollars from an alleged public works contractor as part of a bribery scheme and pocketing them into his babariga dress. Despite the scandal at the time, Mr. Integrity, President Buhari, still went to Kano to raise the hands of Ganduje to endorse him for a second term. This event, our source said, greatly irritated Muhammad and contributed greatly in his decision to take up the Hisbah job.
Though members of the Ganduje clan are not happy with Muhammad’s decision but our correspondent learned that there is great jubilation among the talakawas (commoners) in Kano. Older ones among them were said to be saying that “Allah has sent another Aminu Kano.” Aminu Kano, a talakwa, was the founder of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in the Second Republic. PRP aligned itself with the commoners and controlled Kano politics.
YeyeNews.com also learned that talakwas have already started forming neighborhood committees that would assist Muhammad’s Hisbah police in enforcing the sharia law across all social strata. They are openly singing praises of Muhammad for his courage to reject a position at the CBN and NNPC and instead chose to fight the cause of the talakawas.
Attempts by YeyeNews.com to reach the governor for his response was unsuccessful. Also text messages sent to Yusuf Buhari to get his response to Muhammad’s threat were not answered as at the time of going to press.
