The EFCC Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa slumped while delivering a speech at the Presidential Villa on Thursday. Mr Bawa collapsed midway through the speech and was quickly rushed to an undisclosed hospital by dignitaries present at the event. Before his sudden collapse, the EFCC boss was complaining about the widespread identity theft crime in the country.
Yeyenews.com reporter who was present at the event said Mr. Bawa was talking about a suspect the commission arrested in Ibadan with 116 SIM cards when he suddenly started feeling unwell and holding his face. Bawa was then supported to his seat by Prof. Isa Pantami before he collapsed. He was subsequently taken out to a hospital.
Our correspondent said that Mr. Bawa kept saying in Hausa, “It’s Yaya Bello, it’s Yaya Bello. I saw him. I saw him. He threw a big stone at my face”, as he was being rushed out of the hall. This caused a serious stir among guests at the event who where wondering how possible Yaya Bello could attack Bawa when the governor wasn’t even present at the event.
You may recall that there has been a running battle between the EFCC under Mr. Bawa and the Kogi State government over accusations by the former that the latter diverted a 2 billion naira loan meant for settlement of salary arrears of the State’s civil servants.
Yeyenews.com has not been able to reach Mr. Bawa as he is still receiving medical attention, however, our reporter had a phone conversation with a close aide of the EFCC chairman who didn’t want his name in print as he wasn’t authorized to speak on the subject. The source confirmed the chairman’s accusations against Yaya Bello. The aide told our reporter that “Our chairman is very sure he saw Yaya Bello threw a rock at him. He couldn’t dodge because it came very fast. It’s a spiritual attack. Many will not understand. Bawa was only able to survive this attack because he has some fortification he got from the village”. But this is not over, the source added.
Yeyenews.com also gathered that a powerful marabout has been flown into Abuja from Katsina in a private jet to protect the young EFCC chairman from the spiritual wrath of the youngest governor in the country.
