There is great jubilation among catholic men in Nigeria after it was reported that Pope Francis has declared the sin of adultery as not a “serious sin”. YeyeNews.com reporter spoke to various Nigerian men who are members of the church to know what they think about the Pope’s alleged statement.
One of the men who don’t want his name in print told YeyeNews.com how his friends in the Assumption Parish went into jubilant feat when the the news broke. “The Papacy has finally declared adultery as too little a sin to dent any man’s righteousness. The implication is that the sin of adultery is only binding on women. Thank God the last guilt most of us had have been stripped off by the Pope’s declaration. We are now free to openly keep concubines without any fear of being excommunicated by the parish. We are very happy”.
A member of the Catholic Men’s League in Port Harcourt excitedly told YeyeNews.com reporter that his blood pressure has miraculously normalized since the Pope’s statement was made public. “You know we have been hiding to cheat on our wives for a long time. The hide and seek is affecting our blood pressure because of the constant fear of being caught especially by the church. But now all that is over. Adultery is not an important sin according to the papacy”, he said.
But some women of the church are cautioning the men to remember that their wives can also cheat. “Adultery can be committed by women also. They should know that the Pope did not differentiate adultery committed by men from those by women. So if the men feel the Pope’s statement has given them freedom to go after other women then they must know that we can also go out with other men in the name of the Pope”, the lady declared.
