The last may not have been heard about President Muhammadu Buhari’s infamous state visit to Imo State over the past week. While one may want to focus on the high-profile commissioning of gutters and other plausible motivations and implications of the visit, top among the issues which have taken center stage in the aftermath of his visit has been his unfashionable attire, specifically the ‘untrouserness’ of his pair of trousers.
One commentator said that one may excuse the noble gesture of putting on an Igbo attire in his isi agu top, but on the social media, many have described his choice of pair of trousers as an unforgivable fashion mistake. While for others it is a rare something to laugh about in an economy which has provided nothing of amusement.
On the backdrop of that embarrassment, host governor Hope Uzodinma who had hoped to make a nice impression on the president, has ordered the immediate arrest of the tailor who made the cloth, YeyeNews.com has learned. The governor in an uncharacteristic outburst described the tailor as an IPOB mole whose purpose it was to embarrass his government and the good people of Imo State.
“This is an insider job,” Uzodinma said, “that young man is a sleeper cell, a mole. And I have mandated the police to find him. We will go to every tailor shop in Orlu and apprehend anyone who has ever handled a needle until they tell us his whereabouts. These IPOB miscreants have done enough.”
He assured newsmen that no stone would be left unturned until the tailor Mazi Anunti Obiakpor has been apprehended along with his sponsors and collaborators.
In his response, an IPOB member who spoke to Yeyenews.com under the condition of anonymity described Uzodimma’s words and actions as vain. In his words, the tailor has contributed his quota towards the actualization of Biafra. “Mazi Anunti is a decent man, he used the measurements of the original Buhari which Rochas Okoroawusa had gotten in 2015 as he prepared to erect Buhari’s statue. This is another proof to the world that the man in Aso Rock is Jibril of Sudan, the original Buhari would fit into the trousers,” he said.
Another IPOB member snickered and said he was not happy that Buhari was coming to Owerri, but was pleased now that he came because Buhari and his trouser were an amusement to him. It made him remember bongo trouser his father and their agemates wore in 1970s. He said that the Supreme Court governor Hope Uzodinma forget to bring the timber-high shoes they wore in the 1970s with the bongo trouser. To him Buhari’s accouters were incomplete though he had commissioned the photograph to be enlarged and framed for his living room.
Meanwhile in his reaction, celebrity cop turned tailor, DCP Abba Kyari, described the actions of the IPOB tailor as a shame to the profession, stating that the Police is now more determined than ever to fight crime in the fashion industry.
These were his words: “This is treason. If I could stay in Nigeria and make a perfect fitting Agbada for Hushpuppi in far away Dubai, there is no excuse for this Orlu man to produce that nonsense of a pair of trousers. When we finally get him arrested, we will transfer his case to the FBI and the New York City Fashion Tribunal. Sai Baba.”
In his own comment obtained by YeyeNews.com through anonymous source, the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the President, Mr. Femi Adeshina said this would not have happened if Aisha was home. “Nobody takes care of this man. It seems like he was put inside the clothes,” he lamented.
