A pastor in Abuja who referred to himself as the Yuppie MOG on Sunday told members of his congregation that the Word of God is merely a guideline that is not to be taken too seriously. A member of the church narrated to YeyeNews.com how the pastor told his stunned congregation during their monthly Holy Ghost Assembly that the passages in the Holy Bible are allegories that requires a modern approach of interpretation if the church is to fit in the rest of the world’s progressive culture.
“Pastor Yuppie has always told some of us privately that he doesn’t believe most of the passages in the Bible. But this is the first time he spoke out publicly about his views on the content of the Holy Book. He believes Christians should embrace modern and progressive culture instead of choosing to live by the dictates of an outdated book. He often tells us to pay our tithes and live our lives to the fullest according to the desires of our flesh”, an elder of the church said.
The pastor of the church further corroborated the claims during a phone chat with YeyeNews.com. “The world has progressed to the point where everything is optional. People choose who they want to be, what they want to wear, what they want to read, what they want to believe and how they want to be addressed. These are things that the church must adapt to so that we can fit into the modern era. Conflicts are bound to occur if we don’t revise how we interpret the Bible. How can we accommodate same sex married couples or transgender people unless we modernize the Bible? This is the crux of my ministry”, Pastor Yuppie declared.
