The declaration by the Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to contest the 2023 presidential elections has sparked reactions from a cross section of Nigerians. YeyeNews.com reporter went to the streets to sample the opinion of people about the prospect of the youngest Governor’s bid to succeed President Buhari.
A Local Government staff in Kabba told YeyeNews.com reporter that the governor’s performance in Kogi State does not leave much to be desired to warrant becoming the next president. The worker lamented the pathetic welfare condition of LG workers under Yahaya Bello. “Since he became governor we have been receiving less than one third of our salaries. Some of my colleagues even get as low as N7500 per month as salaries after all the unexplained deductions. And his thugs are always on standby to swoop on anyone that try to protest. How would anyone expect me to support a man like that to become president”.
Amazingly, an aged woman who works as a janitor in a public school in Kabba responded to YeyeNews.com reporter’s query about Yahaya Bello’s presidential bid with a humorous retort; who is this Yeye Barrow? I don’t him o. But if na our governor you dey ask me about, I no go fit support am for president. He don make us suffer too much. Na make some people call am Yeye Barrow. No be me call am o”, she said laughing loudly.
A Lagos based political analyst advised Nigerians not to make the mistake of voting the Kogi State governor as president in 2023. “The country is already contending with one terrible mistake made in 2015. We should not make another in 2023. Yahaya Bello will be a bigger disaster than the one we have now. He has already bared his dictatorial fangs in Kogi, he will show the claws once he is made president”, the political analyst said.
