A lecturer in the University of Uyo has been suspended by the school’s management, after a mental health assessment showed that he was suffering from a mental disorder.
The lecturer whose name has been withheld for security reasons was compelled by the school’s management to have a mental health assessment, after a series of complaints by the students in the department.
Speaking with YeyeNews.com reporters, one of the students in the department spoke about the lecturer’s attitude: “He always bragged about his educational achievements in class and constantly reminded us that the best grade we could ever get in his course was a “C”, because he believes “A” is for God and “B” is for him. That is why we reported him to the authorities.”
The HOD of the department revealed to YeyeNews.com reporters that he was quite shocked at allegation from the students, and only made his move to report the situation to the Dean of the faculty when he was presented with a video evidence showing the lecturer in class, telling his students they could never get an “A” or a “B” in his course.
The mental health assessment however revealed that the lecturer currently suffers from a severe form of Narcissistic Personality Disorder, a mental condition in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, troubled relationships, and a lack of empathy for others. After the assessment he was suspended indefinitely to receive the appropriate help he needs, and only to be reinstated when he is deemed mentally fit to teach in the university.
With this remarkable turn of events, rumors currently going around in the university suggest that the Vice Chancellor is considering a move to have all the lecturers of the school mentally assessed, to be sure they are fit to perform their academic duties.
