It’s like a typical scene from Nollywood on Saturday as a girl married the father of her ex-boyfriend few weeks after the boy unilaterally ended their relationship. The traditional marriage ceremony which took place in the Okere area of the city of Warri attracted a large number of dignitaries many of whom came to simply confirm the story for themselves.
The 22-year-old girl who married the father of her 26-year-old ex-boyfriend told YeyeNews.com reporter that she decided to marry the man to teach his son a bitter lesson: “I no offend Mudiaga o! He just come one day tell me say he no wan do again, I even tink say na drink eye he take tuk am o. So I say make I leave am fes. So the nes day wey I go dem place go see am, na so he pursue me say he no wan see me again. Na later I find out say he don get one new girlfriend that is why he no want me again. After he don use me for four years. The mumu no know say him papa don dey look me with corner eye since. Ose (father in urhobo language) dey always dash me money and buy food for me. Many times he dey give me money to do my hair. Wetin him pikin no dey ever do”, she narrated in Warri pidgin.
Asked by YeyeNews.com reporter how she managed to get involved with the father and ended up marrying him, she then continued: “So after Mudiaga no gree do again I cry go tell Ose. He give me handkerchief make I clean my face. After he come carry me for motor go Sizzlers (a fast food restaurant) buy food for me. He tell me say make I no worry, say after one week if Mudiaga no come back to me make I come tell am. Na so e happen o. Mudiaga say him new girlfriend dey catch am like ogogoro so me sef jeje follow him papa. As I don marry Ose so Mudiaga don turn my stepson. I warn am before but he no gree hear” she said excitedly.
Mudiaga told Yeyenews.com that although he did not expect that his father could betray him to such an extent but he had since come to terms with the situation. “As for me I can even manage but I don’t know how my mother is going to cope with this embarrassing situation” he lamented. He said he has already confronted his father and they have settled themselves like men. “My father agreed that he is going to rent a separate apartment for her. The only problem now is how we can make my mother understand. She is presently in Canada doing Umugwu for my sister. I just hope that she doesn’t come back to meet this mess. Let her just continue to enjoy herself there” he added.
Yeyenews.com met up with Mudiaga’s father to find out how he felt about the situation. “I feel happy”, he said laughing uncontrollably. “I didn’t feel like I betrayed Mudiaga in anyway. He is my son and I want the best for him and I will do everything possible for him to get the best. As for my new wife, she was already a free agent when I signed her to my team. Yes, she played for my son’s team before but that does not preclude her from playing for mine as she has agreed to do. Besides I am signing her on a life contract. If my son had kept her, I would have supported them in everyway I can. So that one is settled.”
On what his relationship will be with his other wife, Mudiaga’s mother, “The case with mama Mudiaga will be a little difficult but at last she is going to understand that as a chief in Urhobo land I am entitled to marry more than one wife”, he said.
