An inmate who escaped from the recent jailbreak in Jos left a note in his cell promising to return back soon, an official of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) told YeyeNews.com. The source said the inmate left the note scribbled on the floor of his cell saying he has some important business to take care of but promise to be back shortly.
“We believe that the heavy shootout with the invaders gave the inmate the opportunity to escape out of the facility by scaling over the back fence. We are surprised that he promised to return after he has sought out his issues on the outside”, the NCoS official said.
In the note seen by YeyeNews.com reporter, the inmate swore that he was not involved in the attack on the prison. “I am just using the opportunity of this attack that happened to escape from this prison where I have been living for 3 years now. I swear that I don’t know anything about the attack but I am sorry I have to leave to take care of some family business. My daughter is in police custody for the past one week because of frame up. My wife cannot help because she is serving prison sentence in Benue State. I can’t allow my only daughter to end up in prison like her parents, so I must go and help her out. I promise to be back after I fix everything. I pray to meet all of you in good health and intact when I return”, part of the hurriedly scribbled note reads.
As at the time of filing this report the NCoS officials have not been able to ascertain which police station is holding the escaped inmates daughter. A source in the Correctional Service said nothing has been heard from the inmate since his escape. “We are just hoping he returns as promised”, the source said.
