President Muhammadu Buhari has charged security agencies in the country to end the activities of bandits and terrorists in country before the end of his term in office because they are threatening the safety of cows. A source in Aso Rock told YeyeNews.com that the president was very worried that cows are no longer safe in the country.
“During the meeting with heads of security agencies the president warned the security forces to ensure that targets having herds of cows close by should be spared of aerial bombardment. He informed them that the security operations in the northwest was designed to curtail cattle rustling. The president want the cows to be safe first before a full scale operation to secure human lives can be launched”.
A resident of Daura who spoke with YeyeNews reporter on the issue noted that the people have since realized that they are living at the mercy of bandits. “The cows in the president’s farm are more secured than our children who go to school. In fact, the president’s first response when he heard about the kidnap of 300 pupils at a school in Kankara was to order his ADC to secure his 270 cows. That’s the value of human life in Nigeria today”.
But a media aide of President Buhari has said that the president doesn’t place cows over the lives of Nigerians. He argued that if cows are safe, the herders will also be safe. “The president is just applying some advanced military strategy in tackling the insecurity problem. The cattle’s are very important as source of protein. If they are endangered then the lives of everyone that depends on them for protein will be at risk of malnutrition. Also, protecting the cows will also mean security for the herders. So you can see that the strategy ensures a win-win situation for everybody”, the aide said.
