Most of the women in the New Word Mission Church, Obiaruku in Delta State have stopped attending the church after the pastor revealed that God has told him that women should now be the head and breadwinners of the family. According to sources, the church was the favorite for women in the area as a result of the its numerous women friendly programs.
“Last week the pastor of the church said he got a revelation from God that women should play the role of breadwinners and head of the family for three weeks. The level of adherence was supposed to reviewed every Sunday during the service until the three weeks elapse. Surprisingly, this is the first Sunday and most women are absent from the service”, an assistant pastor told YeyeNews.com reporter.
Also a member of the church who pleaded anonymity told YeyeNews.com that it is amusing how the women are trying to sidestep the assignment of carrying out the duty of providing for the home. “When the pastor earlier directed the men to carry out all house chores for one month, our women were in the forefront to ensure it was done to the latter. We didn’t complain nor did we run away from church. But look at them, they couldn’t even stand a week of responsibility. For this one week my wife only provided one packet of spaghetti in the house [laughed]. I hope they start to appreciate what we go through to provide for the family”.
But amused by the large scale desertion by the women from the church service, the pastor of the church has suspended the directive and appealed to the leadership of the women group to ensure all the women are present in the next church service. “This was just a simple challenge. It wasn’t a do or die affair. Rather than absent yourselves or deliberately come to church late, anyone who couldn’t meet up could have told us their limitations during the review. You never know were help can come from. But anyway, the spirit just whispered to me that this challenge should be suspended. So please women committee leader go and tell your people to come back to church”, the pastor said amidst a thunderous laughter from the congregation.
