The super eagles coach Gernot Rohr has threatened to reveal the names of everyone getting a share from his salary if the NFF goes ahead to sack him before the end of the World Cup qualification rounds. A source in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) told YeyeNews.com that the German tactician insisted on being allowed to complete the prosecution of the AFCON and World Cup qualifications.
“Rohr insists on leaving on his own terms or else he will go public with the names of everyone who gets a slice from his salary. One of his conditions is that he should be allowed to see the Eagles through the qualification rounds. He said the NFF can then decide on what they will do about him”. The source further revealed that the NFF had already prepared Rohr’s sack letter last week but had to quickly withdrew it after the coach made the threat. “He could have been sacked after the Cape Verde match. But during a meeting at the NFF secretariat to hand over the sack letter, the coach threatened the officials present that he would not hesitate to mention names if they sacked him, so they had to withdraw the letter”.
But a source close to one of the Super Eagles players who wanted anonymity told YeyeNews.com reporter that it would have been justified to place all the blame on the coach if he had been given full latitude to operate. “The NFF should also consider sacking itself because they have always interfered in everything in the super eagles. Sometimes they even send names of players to invite to the coach. And the most shocking is that some powerful people collect as much as 30 – 40% of the coach’s salary. How can anyone be expected to perform effectively under such situation”.
Though officials of the NFF has denied the allegations of collecting a portion of Rohr’s salary but they could not be categorical on whether the coach will be sacked anytime soon when asked by YeyeNews.com reporter.
